Open Road Experiences / 1978 - 1981

Before there was a TrailRidge Mountain Camp, there was Open Road Experiences. ORE, as we were called, took kids on adventures across the United States and even to Europe during our last summer before TrailRidge. ORE was the predecessor of TMC and many boys attended both - either as campers and/or counselors. The very first ORE trip in 1978 was six-weeks long and we traveled all the way from Louisiana to California and back again hardly staying anywhere more than one night. We also had a North Carolina mountains trip that summer. A two-night stay was a luxury. Learned some hard lessons about too much travel. In 1979 we went from New Orleans to Canada and back on a seven-weeks long trip. With each trip we got better and better about planning the itinerary and logistics.
